More than fifteen years ago, New Portland’s first public library opened in an old school house in the North Village. Over time, the building proved no longer suitable and, thanks to many grants, a new library was built in the East Village near the Town Office and Fire Station. The new library opened in 2006 and has more space than the previous building, including a special children’s corner, a board room, a tutoring office, and computers with high-speed internet available to the public. There is a wireless connection available to people who have their own laptops. We have a large selection of books, including large print, hardcover and paperbacks, magazines, audio books, as well as movies.

The board room, along with seating space in the library and the tutoring office, are all available to patrons for individual use as well as small meetings. Various meetings and public events are held throughout the year.

Toasty Tuesday mornings are open to the public to do crafts, play cards, view our collections, get assistance with genealogy questions, and enjoy a hot beverage and snacks.

Check with the library for specific dates and times. We can be reached by phone at (207) 628-6561 or email at newportlandcl@gmail.com.
