2017 Assessor’s Notice

Municipality of Town of New Portland, Maine

2017 Assessor’s Notice

In accordance with Title 36, M.R.S.A., Sec. 706, as amended, the Assessors of the Municipality of New Portland hereby give notice to all persons liable to taxation in said municipality, that they will be in session at The New Portland Town Office in said municipality, on the 1st of April at 8 am to 12 pm for the purpose of revising lists of the estates taxable in said municipality.


All persons liable to taxation in the Municipality of The Town of New Portland, Maine and all Personal Representative, trustees, etc., of all estates taxable in said municipality of such persons are hereby notified to furnish to The Assessors True and Perfect Lists of All Their Estates, Real and Personal, not by law exempt from taxation, of which they were possessed on the first day of April, 2017, and be prepared to make oath to the truth of the same and to answer all proper inquiries in writing as to the nature, situation and value of their property liable to be taxed.

Estates Distributed

And when estates of persons deceased have been distributed during the past year, or have changed hands from any cause, the Personal Representative, or other persons interested, are hereby warned to give notice of such change, and in default of such notice will be held under the law to pay the tax assessed although such estate has been wholly distributed and paid over.

“Penalties for Non-Compliance”

And any person to whom this notice is mailed who neglects to comply with this notice is hereby barred to his right to make application to the Assessor, Assessors, or Chief Assessor or any appeal therefrom, for any abatement of his taxes, unless he furnishes such list with his application and satisfies them that he was unable to furnish it at the time appointed.

Reminder of Town Meeting and Municipal Election

Just a reminder that Friday, March 3rd from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. is the municipal election at the Community Room. There is a public hearing on the Comprehensive Plan on Friday, March 3rd at 6:30 p.m. at the town office.  And the Annual Town Meeting is at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 4th.
