Absentee Ballots October 5th – October 29th for the State Referendum Vote on November 3, 2015

Just a reminder that you can come into the office during office hours to request an absentee ballot, or you can request an absentee online at this address

You can come into the office to request an absentee ballot, request over the phone, or you can go

to If you decide to request an absentee ballot online, then when I receive the request and verify you are a registered voter here in New Portland I will mail you out an absentee ballot. October 29th is the last day you can request an absentee ballot without special circumstances.


October 15thThis is when I can start to process dog licenses. In this month’s New Portlander there is a form that has instructions as to what you will need when licensing your dog(s) and to make it more convenient there is also a section at the bottom of the page for you to send in with proof of rabies, payment for license(s), and a self-addressed stamped envelope. You can send it in before October 15th and I will hold onto the information until October 15th and I will be sure process them and mail them out.


The Referendum Election is on Tuesday, November 3rd and the polls will be open from 8:00am to 8:00pm at the Community Room/Fire Station 911 River Road New Portland. We hope to see you all there.

Selectmen’s Meeting for Monday, August 17, 2015 is CANCELLED

The Selectmen have cancelled the meeting scheduled for Monday, August 17, 2015.  The next scheduled meeting will be September 1, 2015.

The Board of Selectmen will hold an emergency Selectmen’s Meeting to review and sign 2015 Tax Commitment papers.  The meeting will be at the Town office at 6:15 p.m.

Playground upkeep

Help is needed to get the Playground cleaned up. As some folks have seen while your kids are playing, that the grass is coming up through the sand. Weeding has been done, but it is a lot of work for one person. If a few people could do some weeding while kids are playing or just when you have time. A cloth mat (not sure of the official name) is below the sand that should prevent the grass from growing. I believe when the mowing gets done, some gets into the area.
So, when weeding if you use a rake or something make sure not to disturb the mat. I will be working on it as I can, but would love for the citizens to be involved.
You will notice a new sign about smoking at the playground; we ask that you please do not smoke there. Cleaning cigarettes out of the sand is not fun. Plus it is not healthy for children who play there.
Thank you for any and all help. Don’t forget if your kids need Community hours, have them come work.
